Tickled Pink

Volunteers from across Northern Ireland came together at our Portadown store for a special sponsored knit-in to mark the 20th anniversary of our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign.

20 years of Tickled Pink

The women are members of a group who meet monthly to make Knitted Knockers – a lightweight alternative to silicone prostheses for women who’ve had mastectomies. The knitted versions are more comfortable, easier to fit and can be worn inside a normal bra.

Our Portadown Community Champion Elaine Livingstone (above, second from right) invited the Knitted Knockers of Northern Ireland into the store after meeting founder Joanne Harris (below left) at the group’s first sponsored knit-in this summer.

Our inspirational colleague Anne Maddox will be taking to the catwalk in Breast Cancer Care’s fashion show this year.

Anne Maddox

Anne, who works as a Community Champion at our Filton store, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014.

She was encouraged to apply to be a model by her colleague Carolyn Francis, who works with Tickled Pink, and a few weeks after filling out the application form she found out she had been chosen for the show!

Anne said: "I am excited but scared about the show. The prospect of walking down the catwalk is really scary! I hated chemo because it changed the way I looked so I’m working hard on losing some weight for the show.

“I’ve exchanged a few emails with Sharon Noble who works at the Fareham store and has previously walked for the show and she told me I have to do it as it’s a huge confidence boost!”
