Tickled Pink

Thanks to colleagues for raising a whopping £120,000 for Tickled Pink!

Asda colleagues around the country got involved in a cycling relay – starting on 11th June and calling at 132 Asda stores – finishing on 5th June at Asda House. Colleagues took part in different legs of the journey, cycling over 1500 miles in total!

They raised money by holding bucket collections, raffles, pink clothing days and other in store activities. Thanks to everyone who helped to raise this fantastic amount for Breast Cancer Campaign and Breast Cancer Care.

Geri Halliwell and Breast Cancer Care Chief Executive Samia al Qadhi

Breast Cancer Care Patron, Geri Halliwell, presented Asda’s Head Of Community Dawn Clements and National Charity Partnership Manager Lisa Burnett with the award.

Geri said: "Breast Cancer Care does wonderful work thanks to the support, and dedication of companies like Asda.

“As a Breast Cancer Care Patron I know that every penny they have raised will make a huge difference to the lives of people affected by breast cancer. On behalf of everyone at Breast Cancer Care I want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Asda for their hard work and commitment.”

The money raised through Tickled Pink ensures Breast Cancer Care can continue to provide free information and support services to the 55,000 people, and their families, who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK.

Thanks to all customers and colleagues who helped us raise this fantastic amount!

Maxine Green

We’re delighted to announce that Asda colleague Maxine Green will be modelling at this year’s annual Breast Cancer Care fashion show!

Maxine will be strutting her stuff on 2nd October at the Grosvenor House Hotel alongside 24 other women and men who have all had a diagnosis of breast cancer – to prove you can still look great and feel confident after a breast cancer diagnosis.

Maxine, who was diagnosed in 2010, said: “I want to do this to show anyone going through breast cancer that is isn’t always life threatening and you can still look and feel the same as before. It’s just one of those challenges and you can get through it.”

Maxine had a full right side mastectomy followed by reconstruction, as well as chemotherapy.

Congratulations to Jim Viggars, Head of Meat Quality and Buying Manager at Asda, who has been awarded Breast Cancer Campaign’s “Employee Fundraiser of the Year” after raising £5 million for breast cancer charities.

Jim Viaggars

He was presented with the award at Breast Cancer Campaign’s annual reception at the House of Lords – which is held to recognise and say thank you for the amazing achievements of its supporters.

Jim has worked at Asda for 28 years and has been dedicated to fundraising for our Tickled Pink campaign. In the past five years, Jim has raised money by taking part in a variety of fundraising challenges and getting colleagues involved. These efforts include leading a team of twenty ‘butchers on bikes’ on a two day cycle ride from Smithfield meat market in London to Rungis market in Paris – raising £67,000! He also broke a Guinness World Record in 2010 for kayaking across Loch Ness in just five hours and 19 minutes.

Our new gingerbread lady will be launching in Asda cafes later this summer in aid of Tickled Pink – and we’re asking our Facebook fans to help us name her!

Gingerbread lady

Although we’ve offered gingerbread men and even gingerbread reindeer at Christmas before this will be the first time we’ve put a gingerbread lady on the menu!

We’ve had some great name suggestions so far! Some people have been inspired by the spirit of Tickled Pink to come up with names such as Joy, Faith and Hope.
