Helen-Louise and Ian at Radio Clatterbridge

Every week our Community Champions Helen-Louise Sestan-Burton and Ian Grant volunteer at their local hospital radio station Radio Clatterbridge. They entertain patients and staff at the hospital with their three-hour show called “Granty and the Brain”.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Tickled Pink and the 65th anniversary of Radio Clatterbridge the pair decided to do a sponsored 20-hour “radiothon”, broadcasting continuously for 20 hours with a mix of music, interviews, requests and phone-ins.

Asda colleagues, family and friends from Hampshire took to the catwalk for a fabulous fashion show to raise money for our Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign on its 20th anniversary.

The event, which raised more than £1,000 for Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now, was organised by Sharon Noble and Julie Motherwell, the Community Champions at our Fareham and Totton stores.

Sharon spoke on the night about her own experience of breast cancer and how Breast Cancer Care helped her. At the end of the show the final models to appear were all people who have had breast cancer – Asda colleagues and friends that Sharon has made through her community work.

A huge well done to the 200 colleagues from our 28 stores across Manchester who teamed up for an epic 100-mile walking relay to raise money for Tickled Pink.

The four-day relay, which took in every one of the stores on route, was the idea of Asda Harpurhey’s General Store Manager Andy Rae as a way of everyone coming together to mark our breast cancer charity campaign’s 20th anniversary.

Tickled Pink

Asda Community Champion Sharon Noble has marked the 20th anniversary of Tickled Pink with an epic swimming challenge in memory of her aunt who died from breast cancer.

Setting off

Sharon, who works at our Fareham store, swam across the Solent from Ryde on the Isle of Wight to Stokes Bay in Gosport with five other members of the swim club Shack Sharks. Together they raised more than £1,000 for Tickled Pink. The three-mile swim took the group seven hours as bad weather and choppy water meant they ended up swimming five miles in total.

“It was much harder than I thought it would be!” said Sharon. “I knew I could do the distance, I was just worried about the cold. The water was 15.4C and the currents were much stronger than they were supposed to be. At one point I looked up and behind me was this huge tanker! We had two ribs with us who were radio-ing ahead to let them know we were in the water.”
