Sustainability | Local Sourcing

We're going local

At Asda, we’re committed to working with local suppliers. This helps our local communities while bringing you a fresh and tasty product.

Our range of local produce includes award winning regional meats, local delicacies, cheeses, yoghurts, sausages, pickles, ice cream, cakes and beer.

We think it’s important that we help out local businesses, while still being able to bring you the best quality products at everyday low prices.

We work with people like Dianne Halliday, who, with her husband Tony, runs Dalefoot Farm in Mallerstang, near Kirkby Stephen. To increase the farm’s income Dianne started a small “production line” bakery from the farmhouse kitchen. Her produce was so successful she has just completed her third expansion, converting another traditional stone barn to double the size of the bakery.

Dianne’s 10-strong team is made up of nearby farmers’ wives and daughters. Her prize-winning cakes are made with locally sourced ingredients using tried and tested recipes, which she inherited from her grandmother. We love the mouth-watering tiffin, gingerbread and butter scotch shortbread!

We’re also proud of Plumgarths Cumberland Sausages, one of our first local projects that saw great success. Within weeks of going on sale in Asda Kendal the branded premium product became the biggest selling sausage on a store by store basis, and it has retained that position ever since.

Why? Because Plumgarths Cumberland Sausages are packed full of great, high quality meat. They are made to a delicious traditional recipe in the butchery at Plumgarths Hub.
