Shop and price check on the move with the new Asda app

Asda launches first transactional mobile app in time for Christmas

Today (17 November 2011) Asda announces the launch of its first transactional mobile app – allowing customers to buy Asda groceries online and price check the cost of their shopping using an iPhone. The move follows the launch of the retailer’s mobile-optimised site back in August this year.

Customers can now download the Asda App onto their iPhone and register, shop and amend an existing order or delivery slot up until 10pm the day before their delivery is due. The app also has an integrated scanner enabling customers to quickly add new products to their basket by simply scanning the barcode.

The app is unique in also enabling busy shoppers to do a price check on the move – bringing in the functionality of the existing Asda Price Guarantee iPhone app first launched in October 2010. Customers can use details from store or online delivery receipts to check the cost of their Asda groceries against Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Waitrose – and if it’s not ten per cent cheaper at Asda, they’ll get a voucher to make it so.

In addition to shopping and price checking functionality the new app also includes a convenient mobile store locator, offering maps and directions so customers can easily find their nearest Asda when they are out and about. And Android customers needn’t worry – Asda is working on a version for them too.

The Asda app was an international collaboration between Asda and the Walmart mobile team based in the US.

Kate Cuthbertson, Asda’s head of mobile strategy said:

“More than 60 per cent of customers who access the Asda.com mobile website do so using iPhones, so we’ve created an app that allows them to shop and price check on the move.

“Our mobile strategy is moving at pace with more new developments planned into the New Year.”

The app is free and can be downloaded from the Apple app store immediately. Anyone who has already downloaded the APG iPhone App just needs to accept the update next time they open it to receive the full Asda App.
