Home Shopping in Northern Ireland

Dundonald Store First to Offer Home Delivery to Supermarket’s Expanding Customer Base. 120 new jobs to be created as part of £1.5million investment by ASDA

Supermarket giant, ASDA today announced that it is introducing its hugely successful Home Shopping service to Northern Ireland.

Only two and a half years after its arrival in the province the company plans to invest a further £1.5million to ensure its loyal customers are offered even more choice and convenience when it comes to their weekly shop. It also gives customers, who don’t have a store on their doorstep, access to ASDA’s famously low prices.

The home shopping service (www.asda.com) will be implemented on a rolling basis with the Dundonald store being the first to go live on the 28th April. While this has created 40 new jobs for the Dundonald store, ASDA expects a further 80 jobs will be created as home shopping rolls out to other stores within its 14-strong NI supermarket base, enabling ASDA to cover up to 80% of NI postcodes.

Initially the new service will be available for customers throughout North Down and the Ards Peninsula, extending as far Ballygowan, Carryduff and Lisburn. A significant part of Belfast will also be included within the catchment area with deliveries available throughout the north and east of the city.

A specially devised training programme for all home shopping colleagues has commenced, and the first in a fleet of new branded home delivery vehicles will be visible on NI’s roads from the 28th April.

“This is yet another example of ASDA living up to its commitments to shoppers in Northern Ireland,” commented Mark Pollard, Regional Operations Manager for ASDA.

“The past 2½ years have given us the ideal opportunity to bed down, listen to our customers and develop a service that fully responds to what they need and want. Home shopping is the next logical step in our expansion plans for NI, and we’re confident that by introducing our unique concept in this phased way, we can provide the level of service delivery which our customers have come to expect. Ultimately this means a responsive, efficient and convenient service which delivers ASDA value, choice and quality – right to the doorstep.”

First deliveries of ASDA’s home shopping service will commence on Monday 28th April but customers can now go on-line (www.asda.com) to place their orders and book delivery slots. Deliveries will be available between 10am to 10pm on a 24/7basis.
