Asda launches new £5 'Christmas bonus' through the Asda Price Guarantee
- Five million customers have visited APG website since the launch of the £5 ‘Thank You’
- Asda says “latest income tracker predicts amount of disposable income available to UK families in December will be £8 a week lower than in December 2010 and that is why we are doing everything we can to ease the pressure. ”
- Asda has had to increase capacity of the APG website to cope with additional traffic
Due to the phenomenal success of Asda’s latest Asda Price Guarantee (APG) campaign, the retailer today announced that a new Christmas campaign will be launched to give shoppers some extended festive cheer and some much needed extra funds for, what is likely to be, a difficult New Year.
The £5 Christmas bonus, which is earned, like last time, through the APG will commence on 25th November and run until 15th January 2012. It will be a welcome reward for families who are, on average, £13 a week worse off compared to the same month last year.*
Deemed by the retailer as the most successful campaign to date for APG, there have been over five million ‘checks’ on the website since the first £5 bonus scheme launched in mid-October. Even after the offer ended on the original campaign, over 1million people have continued to log on each week.
Asda has had to increase the capacity of the website to cope with the additional traffic. At one point last week, nearly 250, 000 people tried to log on to the site as the same time to see how much cheaper Asda is compared to rivals through the 10 per cent Asda Price Guarantee.
When asked, customers told Asda they had been using their £5 ‘thank you’ to spread the cost of Christmas gifts as well as help them with the cost of their weekly shop. Data from the supermarket shows that over 80% of people have started their Christmas shopping already with the majority of gifts being bought for children, including nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Asda, comments: "The APG £5 thank you was extremely popular with customers; and now the offer just got better.
“We know that around half of our customers are worried about being able to afford the Christmas their families deserve. The latest income tracker predicts that the amount of disposable income available to UK families in December will be £8 a week lower than in December 2010 and that is why we are doing everything we can to help ease the pressure.
“We are offering the most powerful price commitment in the industry which includes a £5 bonus on top of our promise to be 10% better value than other supermarkets."
Every customer who spends £40 or more in any store, or through Grocery Home Shopping on asda.com, between the 25th November and 11th December and then successfully checks their bill online at www.asda.com/priceguarantee will receive a £5 voucher, redeemable against their next £40 shop up to the 15th January 2012**.
