Asda launches electircal website

ASDA today (Monday 29th January 2007) announced the launch of its latest dotcom business – ASDA Electricals.

Accessed via, the site includes thousands of new products ranging from top of the range plasma and LCD TVs to energy efficient washing machines and fridge freezers.

The online electrical market is currently worth £1.9bn, but is growing at a rate of 30% each year. ASDA is aiming to capture a 5% slice of it by 2012.

Every electrical product purchased online at will be delivered directly to the customer’s home. Larger items like dishwashers, washing machines and fridges will be hand delivered by a two man team.

ASDA has been instrumental in helping drive down electrical prices in the UK. Last week it was the first retailer to smash the £10 price barrier with its Durabrand 1005 DVD player – sold for just £9.

Customers can already purchase small domestic appliances like toasters and irons for as little as £4.40 in ASDA stores nationwide. Larger ASDA supercentres and ASDA Living stores also carry a wide range of TVs, DVD players and recorders, mobile phones and MP3 players.

Gordon Hewlett, ASDA’s head of online general merchandise, said: “ASDA’s low price electricals are now available throughout the UK for the first time. Customers from Penzance to Perth can get their hands on fantastic fridges, tip-top tellies and wonderful washers without having to break the bank."

The launch of ASDA Electricals follows hot on the heels of ASDA furniture which moved online in January this year. The George branded range is made up of more than 100 different items, including high quality leather sofas for £300 to wooden bedside tables for £65.
Gordon added: “Our website now caters for every need at the touch of a button. You can buy your groceries, furnish your home from top to bottom, order flowers, book a weekend away – all from the comfort of your George leather armchair.”
