Red Ken Poised for Victory According to ASDA Shoppers

It’s not just Ken, Boris and Brian who’ll be eagerly awaiting the results of the London Mayoral elections on Monday, colleagues at ASDA’s Roehampton store in South West London will be waiting on baited breath too.

For the past month customers and colleagues have been carefully watching the top 3 mayoral candidates go head to head….on the curry counter, with customers encouraged to base their choice on their favoured candidate. The latest poll shows Ken, steaming away in front with 41%, hot on his heels is Boris with 35% and slowly simmering in the background is Brian with 24%

ASDA launches Britain’s lowest priced mobile phone

ASDA today (25th April) launches Britain’s lowest priced Pay As You Go mobile phone ever when it goes on sale at £5 with no strings attached. So straightforward is the deal that you could walk into an ASDA store, buy the phone and walk out. Over 50,000 handsets, which are amazingly cheaper than a kids’ toy mobile, will be available at ASDA stores across the UK from 9am but the supermarket warns these are likely to sell out quickly.

The retailer is even giving customers a choice of four phones to choose from including a Nokia. ASDA is well known for bringing customers iconic items at unbelievable prices and has previously sold DVD players for £9, suits for £15 and copies of the latest Harry Potter book for just £5. Peter Pritchard, ASDA Trading Director, says: ‘We think this latest offer is likely to get the best reception yet! When it came to deciding to sell the latest high quality phones at incredibly low prices to our customers, it wasn’t a tough call to make.

Data shows that people living in northern England are more likely to suffer from ailments such as the common cold, sore throat or cough, whilst figures show that their southern neighbours are moving away from modern medicines in favour of traditional herbal remedies

Asda’s monthly income tracker report for March reveals: Even though average earnings before tax went up £24 a week over the last year, the average family was £1 a week worse off. This is because tax and essentials like food, housing and transport cost £25 a week more. The average UK household family has 1.0% less disposable income to spend on leisure and entertainment (£131) in March 2008 than (£132) in March 2007

• Cost of living (spending on essentials) has risen 5.2%

• Gross income growth has increased by 3.8%

• Net income (income after compulsory tax and national insurance contributions) increased just 3.6%

• Transport costs are up 7.1%, including 20.3% rise in petrol

• Food and non alcoholic drink are up 5.5%

• Clothes prices are down 5.2%

• The cost of housing fuel and power increased by 4% over the 12 months to March 2008.

Dundonald Store First to Offer Home Delivery to Supermarket’s Expanding Customer Base. 120 new jobs to be created as part of £1.5million investment by ASDA.

Supermarket giant, ASDA today announced that it is introducing its hugely successful Home Shopping service to Northern Ireland.

Only two and a half years after its arrival in the province the company plans to invest a further £1.5million to ensure its loyal customers are offered even more choice and convenience when it comes to their weekly shop. It also gives customers, who don’t have a store on their doorstep, access to ASDA’s famously low prices.

An entire supermarket is placing a bet on Bob Hall to win the Grand National on Saturday – in honour of one of its workers.

Asda is backing the 100 to one outsider to encourage everyone in the company to shout support for their own Bob Hall – who looks after the fruit and veg in their Perry Barr store in Birmingham.

And if the horse finishes first, then Bob will get the winnings – which would be in excess of £4000.

An icon of British culture, which, for generations, has marked out a man as worthy of respect, is now in terminal decline, new sales figures have revealed.

Demand for traditional “spit and bull” shoe polish – beloved by Army drill sergeants and once regarded as essential for everyone, from Prime Ministers to park attendants – has fallen to an all time low.

Instead, today’s consumers are choosing easy option, quick, single application, synthetic creams and liquids, with old style polish now accounting for just 13 per cent of the market.
