Scarlet's perfect pizza design goes on sale at our Strelley store
Eight-year-old Scarlet Richards has won a school competition to design the perfect pizza – and it goes on sale in our Strelley store in Nottingham this weekend.
The store’s Express Diner manager Helen Stevenson came up with the idea after giving pupils at Brinsley Primary School a pizza-making masterclass.
Helen was at a parents’ evening at the school when a teacher mentioned that the children were learning about Italian food.
She said: "I thought, I make pizza all day, every day, so who better to run a pizza masterclass?! I then thought it would be nice to run a competition and sell the winning pizza in store.
“So all the kids voted for their favourites and the three with most votes got to come into the store and make their pizzas.”
Scarlet made a meat supreme, her twin sister Freya made an inferno and Conor Harvey (pictured below) made a hot Hawaiian – all under Helen’s supervision.
Helen then offered samples of the pizzas to customers and Scarlet’s proved the most popular.
She said: “The kids absolutely loved it and I loved it too. Not only did it teach them about how we make pizza, it taught them a little about supply and demand and how a busy supermarket works.”
The 16" pizza will be sold for £6 or £1.50 per slice in the store throughout the half-term holiday.
