Our new Chosen by you Haggis Pie is causing a stir in Scotland

We’ve just launched our new Chosen by you Haggis Pie in time for Burns Night and it’s already causing a stir in Scotland.

Chosen by you Haggis Pie

The idea was by inspired by some of our Facebook fans after we asked for suggestions for new products for our Chosen by you Scotland range.

George Vekic asked for: “Haggis pie – layers of haggis, beans then mash”

And Irene McConnochie told us: “I have tasted haggis pies, they were delicious. Come on Asda get the team onto that.”

Our pie contains haggis, neeps and tatties in a puff pastry crust and is made by Swords, a Scottish family-run bakery founded in 1894.

It’s designed as a fun and tasty treat but not everyone loves the new pie. The Daily Mail in Scotland today described it as a “national disaster”, criticising the fat content and saying we should be concentrating on healthier options for our Chosen by you Scotland range.

However David Sword, joint managing director of Swords, says: "It’s refreshing to see a major supermarket invest in listening to their customers and creating a product full of Scottish provenance and taste.

“Our first range of Chosen by you Scotland pies have proved very popular and we hope for similar success with the Haggis Pie.”

The pie costs £1.20 and is part of our Chosen by you Scotland range – available in Scottish stores in time for Burns Night on Wednesday (January 25th).
