Colleagues arrange special 80th birthday surprise for Margy
Happy 80th birthday to our popular Asda Bootle checkout colleague Margy Coyle!
Colleagues decorated her checkout overnight as a birthday surprise – and she said: “I had a tear in my eye when I saw what they had organised for me. It was quite emotional.”
Margy, who’s a great grandma, received a large bunch of flowers and a cake from the store, and colleagues took her out for a meal for her big day.
She worked as a medical secretary until she was 69 and then joined the store as a seasonal worker 11 years ago. She was invited back on a long-term basis and works five days a week on the checkouts.
Margy said: "I wasn’t expecting all this – I’m shocked! They decorated my till the night before so when I came in I saw all these balloons at my till. I had a tear in my eye when I saw what they had organised for me. It was quite emotional.
“I’m great friends with all the colleagues here and lots of customers too who know me well.
“I’ve got no thoughts about retiring at all – I hope to keep going for as long as I can. My job keeps me on the go and motivated. Everybody says I don’t look 80, so that made me very happy!”
Margy, who’s a widow, has two children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She lives in nearby Walton.
Asda Bootle customer trading manager Nicky Roberts said: "All of the customers love her – we have customers here who queue up just to go to her till!
“She would do anything for anybody; she’s got a heart of gold. She was in tears when she saw what we had done for her. She’s just so lovely – happy birthday Margy!”
