Don't Get Burnt! Slap on the suncream - and join our campaign
We’ve teamed up with the British Skin Foundation to launch our “Don’t Get Burnt” campaign to keep suncare affordable for all this summer.
We’re asking customers and colleagues to sign our e-petition to get the 20% VAT slashed off the cost of all UK suncare products.
Sunscreen is currently deemed a “luxury” item under UK tax law rather than an essential health product. In our recent survey we found that almost two thirds of people (61%) believe this tax should be removed.
Every year 100,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with skin cancer, yet almost one in ten (9%) people never use suncream and more than a quarter of people (26%) admitted to using suncare products more than two years old – which means they won’t be getting the protection they need.
TV’s Dr Dawn Harper, who is supporting our campaign, says: "Malignant melanoma is the fastest rising common cancer in the UK and is particularly high in younger people.
“Shockingly, allowing your child to play in the sun unprotected is a much higher risk than allowing them to smoke a cigarette – just ten minutes in strong sun can be all it takes for the sun’s UVB rays to burn the skin. Just one episode of sun burn can trigger melanoma.”
You can find our more on our Don’t Get Burnt campaign page.
Protect yourself for less: We’ve got a great deal on our own-brand suncare products – many products in our Sun Protect range are just £3.50 or you can buy two for £6. See the range.
