Colleagues celebrate 40 years' service at store's birthday party
Our fab colleagues Maureen Taylor and Irene Stacey have worked at Asda Stanley since it opened in 1977 – so colleagues made them guests of honour as the store celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Maureen and Irene were given flowers, chocolates and a cake during a special presentation with colleagues – and customers got involved too by playing various games throughout the day.
“The presentation was a nice surprise for both of us,” said Irene. "We were really made a fuss of and it was lovely of the colleagues to organise it.
“I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed working here for 40 years and I hope to make it to 45! It was great to see all the customers involved on the day too – there were loads that recognised both of us and it was a lovely day.”
The event was the idea of General Store Manager Susanne Russell, who said: "It went really well – it was a really good day with a great atmosphere in the store.
“We played ‘checkout bingo’ with customers – and on the 40th minute of every hour customers who were being served at the checkouts won little prizes.
“We made a cake for customers and colleagues too and held a special little presentation for Maureen and Irene.
“They really enjoyed themselves and said they’d been chatting to a lot of regular customers who’ve been shopping here for years.”
