'Legendary' Cardiff colleague Colin loves his checkout role at 83

Meet our popular colleague Colin Leigh who’s still delighting customers on the checkouts at our Cardiff Coryton store at 83.

Great-grandad Colin is a firm favourite with customers and colleagues at the store and is well known for handing out sweets to customers at his till.

Colin used to work as an engineer before joining the store 11 years ago.

He said: "Asda are a brilliant firm to work for – they’ve bent over backwards for me. I love coming to work and the best thing about it is meeting people. My job gets me out of the house and gives me a reason to get up in the morning.

“I’ve got to know many of the customers well and I love talking to them and giving them sweets. It’s wonderful here – a special environment to work in. The colleagues call me a legend which makes me laugh! I love it and have no plans to retire.”

Colin, who is a widower, has two children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Asda Cardiff Coryton’s People Trading Manager Kevin Bristow said: "Colin is a great ambassador for the store and is an instrumental part of the team here. He delivers legendary customer service and interacts so well with customers and colleagues.

“He’s instantly likeable and is so friendly, and has a loyal customer ‘fan club’ who love coming through his till.”
