Bank while you shop - new trial with Barclays starts in 2014

We’re delighted to announce we’ve teamed up with Barclays to offer everyday banking services to Asda customers in store from next year.

The innovative new-style branches will open in February at four of our stores. The first branch will be at Asda Birchwood in Cheshire, followed by Asda Pudsey, West Yorkshire, North Watford in Hertfordshire and Broadstairs in East Kent. The aim is to extend the trial to eight stores in total by early 2014.

New and existing customers of Barclays bank will be able to access their usual banking services at Asda while they do their weekly shop with Barclays colleagues on hand to support customers during traditional opening hours. Outside these hours, the new branches will host new technology to allow customers to carry out regular transactions such as paying in cash and cheques, paying bills, withdrawing and transferring money.

Steve Cooper, Head of Barclays Retail and Business Bank said: “We’ve spoken to our customers who use our everyday and business banking services in our branches and they’ve told us their time is precious. This partnership with Asda means they can do their food shop and bank at the same time, with the opportunity for a new flexible banking experience in a way that’s most convenient for our customers.”
