Go Jahmene!

Jahmene Douglas

Jahmene will sing live this weekend to an X Factor audience of millions but when he first started working at Asda he was “too shy” even to talk to customers.

His boss at Asda Swindon Haydon, Stewart, says: "We had to really build up his confidence. When we first told him he was going onto the shop floor he was terrified!

“Like a lot of people his age he found it a bit awkward to talk to customers but once he got chatting to someone he was fine. We told him to just be himself.”

Provisions manager Stewart says what you see on TV is the real Jahmene. "He’s very genuine and that’s part of his appeal.

Go Jahmene!

Congratulations to Jahmene who is now through to the live X Factor shows after his fantastic version of David Guetta’s Titanium.

Jahmene overcame his now infamous nerves to give an incredible performance in front of mentor Nicole Scherzinger and singer Ne-Yo in Dubai.

See what our Facebook fans said about his latest performance on the Asda Facebook page.

Nicole said he was a “a big risk” because of his nerves and then told him: “Fortunately I believe in you and I’m willing to take that risk.”

Jahmene said it felt like “a massive dream” getting through to the live shows – watch his reaction to the news on X Factor’s You Tube channel.

The Judges had high hopes for Jahmene’s first Bootcamp audition on Saturday – but it nearly cost him his place in the competition!

He teamed up with fellow contestants Jae and Craig to sing Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger but he didn’t know the song and his nerves got the better of him.

His fans were on the edge of their seats and Asda colleague June Thurston says: “I was crying on Saturday when I thought he wasn’t going to go through!”

Luckily Jahmene was given a second chance after Gary Barlow told him: “You were the best singer I’d seen in the whole of the audition tour by far”.

When it was Jahmene’s turn to perform again on Sunday he was sick with nerves and had to be given a pep talk by Louis and Nicole but went on to give an incredible performance of Will You Love Me Tomorrow by The Shirelles. See what our Facebook fans had to say about it on the Asda Facebook Page.

Take a look at his fantastic version of the song here:

It was second time lucky for Jahmene who is now through to the next round – the judges’ houses where Nicole Scherzinger will be his mentor. We’ll find out exactly where he and the rest of the boys are off to in the next show!

Asda colleague Jahmene was given a standing ovation for his incredible performance of Etta James’s At Last on the first X Factor of the new series.

He was the first act of the show and incredibly nervous but got some fantastic feedback from the judges – and the all-important four "Yes"’s.

Louis Walsh told him “A star is born!” and Gary Barlow said “I have never seen a vocal performance like that before.”

You can watch Jahmene’s breathtaking performance again in the video above – and see what our Facebook fans had to say about it on the Asda Facebook page.

Go Jahmene!

Asda colleagues have been getting behind Jahmene with many of them tweeting and leaving messages for him on Facebook and Asda websites.

Jahmene supporter and colleague June ThurstonJune Thurston, Community Life Champion at Asda Hereford, had this message for him: “Start believing in yourself because you’re amazing!”

She met Jahmene last year where he sang at an event for Asda colleagues in his region and told him he had a wonderful voice.

“I said, “I really don’t understand why you haven’t applied for something like X Factor.” He just smiled!"

June was rooting for him in last weekend’s Bootcamp performances and says: "I actually started crying on Saturday when I thought he wasn’t going through and then when he did go through on the Sunday I actually punched the air!

“As far as we’re concerned he’s a winner! He reminds me very much of Michael Jackson in that he can hit the high notes.”
