Asda colleagues and customers raise £1.2 million for BBC Children in Need!
We want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of our colleagues and customers who helped us to raise a staggering £1.2m for BBC Children in Need this year.
Highlights of this year’s fundraising campaign included Peter Andre visting our Roehampton Vale store in South West London to bake cupcakes in our in store bakery, host a Mad Hatters tea party in the Asda cafe, and even take a turn behind the checkout.
A host of celebrities also attended our special Mad Hatters tea party fundraising event. Jorgie Porter from Hollyoaks, The One Show’s Alex Jones, Gavin & Stacey’s Matt Horne and Jedward were amongst the stars who dressed up as characters from Alice and Wonderland to recreate the magical tea party set, which was made up of our special Children in Need products, including gingerbread Pudsey bears, brightly-coloured mixing bowls, cupcake cases and cupcake stands – with a percentage of sales of each product donated to the charity.
As well as donating to our Children in Need collection boxes, customers could buy our special Children in Need products to show their support. T-shirts, bakery goods and floral bouquets flew off the shelves, with a percentage of each sale going to the charity, and kids and big kids alike loved our Pudsey bear soft toys, with £1 for every £5 bear sold going towards our fundraising total.
We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity and commitment shown by our customers, colleagues and celebrity fundraisers, and absolutely delighted with the total amount raised. Let’s see if we can do even better next year!
