Check out some of the highlights of the amazing #cakemyday tour

Thank you to all our wonderful customers and colleagues who’ve been helping to put big smiles on people’s faces with our #cakemyday 50th birthday celebrations.

Our Cake My Day team have been visiting some of the local community groups we support up and down the country – and sharing cake with hundreds of people on the way.

The #cakemyday campervan turned up to deliver cake and present cheques from the Asda Foundation to some of the community groups and local charities we support across the country. In total the Asda Foundation donated a whopping £501,326 to 72 local charities and good causes during the #cakemyday tour. Here are just a few:

The Dunstable Salvation Army Centre had no idea that a cheque for £10,000 was heading their way – and they were over moon when the Cake My Day team turned up with the donation and other goodies. Find out more here.

One of the first stops for the Cake My Day van was the Linton Lane Centre in Kirkcaldy, where the team presented a cheque for £7,725 to go towards vital improvements to the centre’s main hall. Read more.

The team turned up to Nuneaton Equestrian centre with treats and a cheque for £10,000. The centre, which helps disabled people learn to ride, plan to use the money to buy new security gates to provide riders with a safer place to ride. Take a look here.

We also paid surprise visits to people who had been nominated by our Facebook fans for a Cake My Day treat.

Jade Pateman was nominated by her mother, who is so proud of the way she has remained so positive after being diagnosed with cervical cancer at the age of just 21. Read her story here.

Our Community Life Champions in each of our stores have been at the heart of the #cakemyday celebrations – setting up cake decorating stalls and visiting other local good causes to cake people’s days. Here are just a few of the things they’ve been tweeting about:

June Thurston from our Hereford store is one of our wonderful Community Life Champions who work so hard to make a difference in the local community all year round. See what she got up to for #cakemyday here.

Our 50th birthday has also been an opportunity to say thank you to some of our most loyal customers. Gladys Dorward, who’s 84, has been shopping at Asda since her first local store opened. When she came in to the Huddersfield store for her weekly shop Community Life Champion Anne Hodkin presented her with a lovely cake and a bunch of flowers.Read more here.

And, of course, our birthday celebrations have given us a great chance to talk about one of our favourite topics… cake! Our celebration cake range is hugely popular – we see hundreds of people talking on social media about cakes like the giant Jammie Dodger cake to Pablo the Pug! See the full range here.
