We're trialling a new style of shopping trolley for new parents

We’re always listening to feedback from our customers which is why we’re trialling a new design of shopping trolley to make it easier for new parents who are shopping with a baby in a car seat.

Existing trolley, left, and new trolley design

Asda mums and dads told us our existing trolleys are difficult to see over once you put a car seat on top of them – as you can see from the trolley on the left in the picture above.

We’ve lowered the height of the car seat carrier and made it easier to manoeuvre. We’ve also added a shelf underneath for bulky items like big packs of nappies.

First time mum Lesley Ann, 28, said: “I cannot tell you how many times I have either run the trolley up the back of someone’s legs, or dragged a display basket halfway up the aisle, because I can’t see over the top of the car seat.”

When she road-tested the new trolley she said: “The shelf for the car seat is a good half a metre lower, allowing you to see over and avoid hitting anyone or anything!”

You can read more of her review on her blog.

We also asked mums in stores where we’re trialling the trolleys what they thought. Here’s what some of them said:

“The new trolley makes shopping so much easier now. Me and my mum had to come together before because it was so difficult shopping with a newborn baby because I couldn’t see over the top as I shopped. I’m confident that I can shop on my own in future.”

“It’s a lot less difficult to lift my baby into the high top bit now that the cradle is lower. I really think it’s great, you just couldn’t see where you were pushing the trolley before without standing on your toes or looking round the side of the trolley.”

The new trolleys are being trialled at 10 of our stores including Ayr, Govan, Newmains, Kingshill, Elgin, Greenhithe and Leicester.
