Hoping this year is better than the last

Hi, I’m Toby and I do an awesome sport called water ski racing. Basically, I get towed on a water ski at speeds of up to 100 mph on flat water or about 60 mph on really rough seas through 6-10 feet high waves.

I’m just getting ready for my first national in 18 months as last year I crashed at 80 mph and broke my back in five places (Which did hurt quite a bit) So I couldn’t race for 4 months and missed all the nationals for that year. Two weeks after I was declared fit to race again I did the European cup where I came sixth in the juniors even though my line snapped on the start line so by the time I started I was 2 minutes behind the leaders. After that I raced in the men’s southwest England and south Wales championships which I won without any mishaps for once.

Just finishing winter training now and getting back into race preparation. My team (The Lions) just bought a new boat so I’m doing loads of familiarization at the moment with it because all boats are different to ski behind. Hopefully though it should help me improve loads and do well at the worlds in September.

The first national’s in Burnham-on-Sea which is where i train so hopefully I’ll have an advantage. It also doubles up as a world championship selection race and there’s a lot of skiers going for only two places so it should be a great race. I will let you know how I get on after the race.

Looking forward to posting again soon!
