Laser Spring Qualifiers 2012
So far this year I have taken part in three qualifiers for the Europeans and the GBR National Youth Squad.
The first was in Hayling island, which presented some windy weather on the first day and I posted 2 good results, but along with most of the fleet I unfortunately sailed the wrong course in one of the races and gained a DNF. Sunday was cancelled due to it being too windy. Overall I finished 36th which was a good start to the qualifiers
The second was Stokes bay near the Isle of Wight which was very different to the last qualifier as the wind was now much lighter and coming over and coming over the land meaning it was much shiftier. The first race was abandoned after the first lap due to wind completely dying off. My results on the first day weren’t very good with a very disappointing last race of the day, though I still managed to qualify for gold fleet for Sunday. The wind was even lighter on Sunday and we only managed to get one race in, which I came 3rd in which was brilliant and meant I came 26th overall at the event.
The final of the three qualifiers was at Weymouth, the venue for the 2012 Olympic sailing. I had a great day on Saturday with a 2nd and a 3rd meaning I was 4th overall over night. Similar to Stokes bay the wind became very light on Sunday and the first race started off well but then dropped down to 12th in the race. The last race of the event didn’t go well with a poor start and as a result I dropped to 13th overall in this event, which was still a great result.
