So, today was my first outing in my new team kit, my first tt of the season, and my first 10 ever! A day of firsts! Pulling on the new kit today felt amazing, I was just hoping I could go out and do the team proud! Looking at the start list, I knew the names of a few of the other Ladies riding, and I knew Lowri Bunn was going to be tough to beat, especially after two weeks off the bike ill! After signing on, and putting on some handy heat rub, I went off for a ride to warm up, after ten minutes it started pissing down with rain, so I decide to dash back, and continue my warm up with the heating on full, by sitting in the car! It was still raining heavy when I rode to the start, so I just accepted the fact that I was going to get soaked! As I set off, the rain was still bouncing off the ground, and I suffered the fright of my life when I hit a pothole which I missed due to ground water, so thought I was hitting the deck! Thankfully by the time I made it through the second roundabout, and onto the dual carriageway, I was riding out of the clouds into the sun… Yay! On the way down to the turning point there was quite a strong tailwind carrying me down the carriageway, but turned into a rather un-welcomed head wind at the turn around… bummer. I knew I had to keep going… and being a typical girl just kept thinking of the prize money… what better motivated eh! Nah all jokes aside, I really did want to put on a good time at my first 10! On the drag from the dual carriageway to the finish, I really did suffer! How could it feel so much further than it did on the way down? I was obviously not suffering the most though, because it was on the start of this drag where I caught my 2 minute man. It was this stage that I realised the rider behind me had not caught me, and I knew they were a pretty strong rider, so I was pleasantly surprised, which urged me on to the finish.

I finished with a time of 25.08 in second place, which I was rather happy with, as I only lost by 28 seconds to Lowri, and she was using a zipp disc and 808! All in all a good day! I’m racing tomorrow at Merryfield so will let you know how it goes :)

Cheers, Becs x

After having a really strong block of winter training, just days after coming home from Mallorca, I came down with a chest infection. Which unfortunately means I’ve been off the bike for two weeks now, and I am still not feeling great, and as I fly to America a week tomorrow without my bike, I will be having another two weeks off then, so things really aren’t looking too great for my first race of the season, which is a week after I get home from my holiday in America! I guess though it’s more important for me to get myself better, and it has given me a good chance to catch up with some school work I guess!

I’m going to pick up my Scott Contessa Epic team kit later, will drop you a picture then!

peak to you soon, Becca x

Hey there! Sorry, I know I’ve not done a lot of blogging recently, although a lot of hard training and school work to blame there!

Well, I’ve just got back from an amazing weeks training with Cardiff Jiff, (or should I say the Green Army) and Martyn Bush, in Mallorca! Although I’ve raced abroad before, it was my first training camp abroad and also my first time abroad without somebody looking after me 24/7… definitely starting to feel old here, haha!

We arrived in Mallorca just after lunchtime on tuesday, and decided to put our bikes together, and head out for a short cafe ride to spin the legs and check our bikes were okay! The weather wasn’t too great, rather wet and windy, not what I’d been hoping for! After stopping for a bit of cake and a coffee in the cafe, we were supposed to be going back to the hotel… but Courtney Rowe, notorious for making training rides count, managed to get us rather lost! We must have climbed at least ten rather gruelling short annoying hills, and gone down short slippery descents in the wet, only to find dead ends! At one of the last, one of the lads punctured, so we had to wait in the cold and wet for him to change it. While we were waiting the street lights came on, which made us realise we needed to find our way back to the hotel… and fast! Possibly the hardest ‘easy spin’ I have ever done in my life.

Day 2 on the bike, as now the easy spin definitely counts as a day on the bike, was a rather flat ride, with two cafe stops at around 35 miles in and 60 miles in to the ride. The weather was beautiful compared to the day before and spirits were running high… until we turned a corner into a block head wind should I say! I never would of thought there would be such wind on such a lovely day, and it wasn’t half cold too! Day 2 also saw me take a lie down on the roads of Mallorca, just to find out it hurts just as much as it does at home… painful!!

Day 3 was a much hillier ride than the previous day, and once again it was a beautiful day, and this time without the wind!! Perfect! Those of us doing the hillier route were told the first climb, ‘Little Soller’ would be the hardest climb of the day… but the following three climbs after it were in my opinion a lot more painful! Luckily for me I like climbing… the downhill bit is what I hate haha! Hardest day on the bike… so far anyway!

Day 4 was meant to be just one climb… with a nice flat route there and an alternative flat route back! But unfortunately Courtney was ill, so Martyn (the only person who truly knew his way around) took him back to the hotel. The climb was great, a Spanish team passed us just at the bottom, so I jumped in with them, and surprisingly was still with them at the top! There was a lovely long sweeping descent to the harbour where we were stopping for lunch, which I actually quite enjoyed! It was the getting home to the hotel that was a problem… we decided a flat route would be a better option, as the climb in reverse would be a pretty brutal one, so we tried to use somebody’s Garmin, which showed us a flat route, but failed to tell us this road was the motorway, until we had a lot of fast cars beeping at us! So it was back over the climb we went, and it didn’t half hurt as well! All good training I suppose :)

Day 5 was a well deserved rest day, a day well spent sunbathing and shopping of course!

Day 6 was a long flat ride, where once again we suffered with the wind, but at least it wasn’t cold this time! Day 6 would also be the day I get awfully sun burnt, for somebody who has never been sunburnt before it was a shock to the system!

Day 7 was to be our last ride of the camp, with two long climbs, it proved to be tough, with everyone feeling rather tired! the first climb seemed to just go on and on and on, with long straight sections, and some switch backs, you could never tell when you were near the top! The second was a lot shorter, with a long enjoyable descent after it… Yay :) It was then time for lunch, and the flat route back to the hotel to pack for the morning’s flight!

All in all a rather good camp, an amazing experience, and well good to get over 400 miles done in the week!

Hopefully I will be blogging a lot more once the season starts, and this blog will be closely followed by one about my new team! I’ll keep you posted :)

Cheers, Becca x
