I recently competed at the British U18s Championships in Oldbury where I won the Silver Medal. I also competed at a regional competition in Bristol where I won my category. I also intend on opening up a more official club in Shrewsbury once I get my coaching qualification.

Here is some footage of my Recent competition from Oldbury, This was an opportunity for me to improve my total, as well as help, coach and support other lifters who were aiming to qualify for the Under 18s. I hope we all continue to make progress in the future.
The footage is from the Snatch phase of the competition that I did.
Just an update from my training. The good news is I’m making a little progress. I haven’t gone heavy really in clean and jerk recently, just working on technique and building strength primarily.
Here is a video of my 125 kg Clean and Jerk (20+ stone (which is almost double bodyweight) that I did at the Sports Village just a few days ago.
Also you can find all infomation about me and see all my video’s at Youtube – Username: Mikeyburger1.
This was my most recent competition. The British Junior Nationals (under 21s). Last Year I won in the 69 Kg category. This year I was in the 77 Kg category. It was the toughest line up I had ever seen in the 77 Kg class if not the toughest line up at all time. There was in total 8 lifters in my category with some really strong opponents including Shaun Clegg, Sonny Webster and Jack Oliver.
My performance was quite good, considering training hadn’t gone as well as I had wanted the last couple of months… and I think I could have done more at the competition too. I only achieved 100 Kg in the Snatch. I attempted 106 kg but I Failed due to psychological reasons, I’m certain I was strong enough to make the lift.
In the Clean and Jerk I came away with a New personal best of 122 Kg… But I was disappointed when I lifted 126 Kg over my head, only to see red lights in front of me, it was No lift.
However, I will put this behind me, learn from the experience and try my best in the future. I think that champions are never totally happy with there performance, and you are always striving to improve your lifts.
Here is a video of My 122 Kg (~ 20 Stones) Clean and Jerk attempt. I weighed in at 76 Kg… my heaviest official clean and Jerk lift.
On the 26th of January the Shropshire Schools Sports and Athletics Association invited me to attend the John Beswick evening at the Shirehall’s Council Chambers to receive an award for competing in Olympic Weightlifting for GBr in my two international competitions.
