In the end of February and beginning of March. I was off jet-setting again to Croatia, for the European championships!! I was fencing in Pore?, and the weather was lovely! In the individuals I fought hard but only just got cut after the poules and came 37th. Again my team didn’t do well in the teams, first going out to Poland and then Belgium, but I must admit there was some dodgy referring, but on the whole we had a great time in Croatia.
Last week I went to the World Championships in Moscow, Russia. On the way there we got upgraded on the plane to business class while all the adults were not! There was 66 altogether and this time I was determined not to get cut. I was placed 31st after the poules and had a DE fight! I was feeling nervous but battled through and won. Now I was into the last 32, and I had to fence wireless. Usually you are connected but wire to a box to another box which shows the lights when you hit and the score. It was a bit of a complicated process, but I know what to do next time! Unfortunately I won the fight, but it was a great experience to fence wireless, and I had done really well for my first time at the world championships! I even had lights in my mask. It was so cool!
This weekend I’m doing a ‘Fencathon’ at the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Dunfermline with my club. Its to let people try fencing out and show them some fencing going on (me!) but most importantly its to raise awareness of my club so they can raise money and raise the awareness of fencing as a sport. (lots of raising!)
At school, in PE I’m doing a sports leaders course so I will be teaching primary 6’s and 7’s (11 and 10 year olds) fencing! Hopefully I’ll be a fun and enthusiastic coach, and get them interested in fencing. You get to hit people with a metal stick – what’s not to love? I will get some photos up of it for you all to see!
I hope I have said everything and kept you all updated! :)
