!(img-mid)!
Sorry I’ve not written anything in some time!

So, 2 weeks ago on Saturday the 4th of August I had my bag pack! Unfortunately, due to Olympics and holidays many people couldn’t come to help, so it was my mum, dad and myself packing away, but together we raised £260!

I decided to spend this money on a new pair of fencing shoes because my old pair are falling to pieces, literally! They have arrived, but they’re so nice and clean I don’t want to wear them! Hopefully they will help with the start of the new season. I will try to remember to post more!

Last weekend I was in Sheffield at the British Youth Championships. On Saturday I was refereeing and I did a referee exam so I can be a quantified level 2 sabre ref. I had to wear a suit specially for it!! On the Sunday I was fencing in the U16’s age group, and its my last year in that age group. Although I was ranked 6th after the poules, I came 2nd! I was just beaten in the final, the score was 14-15. But that is the highest I have ever come there, and I have a few more years to get a different colour medal! :D

In the end of February and beginning of March. I was off jet-setting again to Croatia, for the European championships!! I was fencing in Pore?, and the weather was lovely! In the individuals I fought hard but only just got cut after the poules and came 37th. Again my team didn’t do well in the teams, first going out to Poland and then Belgium, but I must admit there was some dodgy referring, but on the whole we had a great time in Croatia.

Last week I went to the World Championships in Moscow, Russia. On the way there we got upgraded on the plane to business class while all the adults were not! There was 66 altogether and this time I was determined not to get cut. I was placed 31st after the poules and had a DE fight! I was feeling nervous but battled through and won. Now I was into the last 32, and I had to fence wireless. Usually you are connected but wire to a box to another box which shows the lights when you hit and the score. It was a bit of a complicated process, but I know what to do next time! Unfortunately I won the fight, but it was a great experience to fence wireless, and I had done really well for my first time at the world championships! I even had lights in my mask. It was so cool!

This weekend I’m doing a ‘Fencathon’ at the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Dunfermline with my club. Its to let people try fencing out and show them some fencing going on (me!) but most importantly its to raise awareness of my club so they can raise money and raise the awareness of fencing as a sport. (lots of raising!)

At school, in PE I’m doing a sports leaders course so I will be teaching primary 6’s and 7’s (11 and 10 year olds) fencing! Hopefully I’ll be a fun and enthusiastic coach, and get them interested in fencing. You get to hit people with a metal stick – what’s not to love? I will get some photos up of it for you all to see!

I hope I have said everything and kept you all updated! :)

Here are the results from Bedford Junior… After the poules I had won 4 fights and lost won, I was ranked 6th. I won my first DE, then won my second DE, so after that I was into the last 8. Its was a really close fight, eventually to 15-14 against me. But overall I ended up 6th. Which improved my Cadet (u17) and Junior (u20) ranking. In the Cadet’s I’m 3rd and in the Junior’s I’m 9th so I have a high chance of being selected for Cadet and Junior international competitions. Next weekend I have the Cadet Nationals, and Junior Nationals on Saturday and Sunday in Sheffield, so not so far to travel as Bedford. Fingers crossed for great results for those competitons!!

So the fencing season has started! At the beginning of September it was the UK School Games in Sheffield, although I didn’t do as well as I hoped, I still had a great experience there. Last weekend I had two competitions, in Stratford Upon Avon.

On Saturday it was an open so anyone from the age of 13 onwards can enter. I fenced really well and ended up 29th, I was put out in my DE by a Olympic Silver Medalist, so although I lost, I didn’t really mind!

But on Sunday it was the cadet competition, which is my age group (under 17) and it was really important to do well so I have a high ranking, so I have a better chance for being selected for International competitions, the Europeans and the Worlds. So with that in my head, I battled through and came 3rd overall. Meaning I’m so far 3rd in the Under 17 rankings.

This weekend I’ll be going to Bedford for a Junior competition which is Under 20 so it will be a lot harder but I still have to put my all in, as it has ranking points attached which go towards the cadet rankings aswell. Fingers crossed I’ll do really well!! :)
