This weekend has been amazing. After just 20 weeks after a relatively serious injury im back skiing! I travelled down to Xscape in Castleford which is an indoor slope. This means theres real snow, kinda like a big fridge. I did really well and managed to remain consistent with a good technique.

I thought this was a good place to go when returning from injury as there are just rails in Xscape with no big jumps which enables me to keep things simple and gradually get back into the sport and it will help some muscles around my hips which are still feeling sore and weak.

Whilst there I was also able to speak to one of my friends, Katie Summerhayes, who was lucky enough to be selected to carry the Olympic tourch in Sheffield as you can see in the picture below.

Finally, tonight I was able to go to Ponds Forge to work on some tricks on the trampoline. Trying them on the trampoline first enables me to get a feel for the movement and makes the progression of learning a difficult trick a lot safer. I got some futage of something im working on at the moment as you can see below. The idea is to eventually remove the padded mat and take it over my head for a second summersault which would then result in me landing on my feet.

Anyway thats about it.

Im back in the gym tomorrow so i’ll make sure i keep my blog up to date with any more progress. Please check out my video and some of the footage from my first ski after injury:

!(img-mid)!

Im absolutely gutted. My local slope Sheffield Skil village was recently burnt down. A local ski team continued running it even though the main building has been totally destroyed but a couple of nights ago someone broke in and stole an important wire which operates the lifts. Therefore it has now been totally shut!!! Which means my first session back is going to have to wait till Thursday night. I’m going to drive down to castleford and ski at the indoor slope there instead. Its more expensive but its the only option we have!

Anyway im off to the gym to work on a few things.

Well……its been a pretty stressful year so far. I started January by traveling to Breckenridge USA where i was supposed to be training for 3 weeks but instead after just 7 days ended up having a freak accident which involved me breaking 3 bones coming off my vertabrea, fracturing both hips and seperating my pelvis which required immediate surgery. This resulted in me being out for the rest of the season which was absolutely guttering. I was told a lot of things by doctors (worst case scenarios I’ve realised now) but after just 8 weeks I managed to return to the gym and receive physio. This all happened at the end of January and im happy to say im back fit! im back training working on tricks on the trampolines and im back in the gym and even stronger than a was prior to injury which i couldnt be happier about, but it hasnt been easy. Its taken a lot of hard work!

Anyway im now free from university for the summer and im purely focusing on training. My first ski session back will be this Thursday at my local slope sheffield ski village so il post about how i get on.

Until then check out this CRAZY PHOTO of the pins holding my pelvis together!
