Winter training started 2 weeks ago now and it’s been stepped up to a whole new level!

I am training 6 days a week, twice a day when possible, around both college and work commitments. It’s tough at times to roll myself out of my bed at 7 in the morning to be able to do everything, but it will all be worth it in the end.

The cold weather won’t be putting me off and when the track is unavailable due to ice in December time, you’ll be sure to see me in the gym, or carrying out a yoga session at home!

As the start of the Olympic athletics starts, I thought I’d update you on my progress.

Coincidentally, I have started to work on the longer distance hurdles event – the 400 hurdles. Over the past 2 weeks, I’ve started doing some long distance pyramid training, just to get the stamina levels up, and now we’ve started putting the hurdles in.

My main event remains the 110 hurdles, but there’s no harm in doing some long distance stuff, preparing for the winter training programme which will commence following a month long break in September.

Lets hope Dai, Jack and Rhys continue their good form in the 400 hurdles in the Olympic Stadium!

Hi everyone, thanks for looking at my first post.

Training is going really well at the moment. It’s taken some time, as expected, to get used to moving up to the 110mH given the different stride lengths, but I’m making good strides now (literally!). I’ve been having some trouble in my shins recently (when will someone relay Withdean track?!) but a superb few treatments from my physio has gone a long way to getting them better, also giving me increased mobility in my hip area.

And all that has helped no end in preparing me for what will be my first overseas meet this month. I – along with 6 other top UK hurdlers and James Hillier – will be flying out to Belgium on the 25th of May to compete in Oordegem. I can’t wait, the track looks nice and hopefully we’ll have some really great conditions as the high tree’s look to have been planted around the track to allow for a calm environment.

I’ll let you know how it goes.
