Hi Everyone!
It’s good to start things off positively… so I am pleased to say that yesterday I won the UK Intercounties cross country (XC) title in Birmigham. It was a sweet win too after my race 2 weeks ago in the English National XC in London, Parliament hill where I collapsed on the finish line spending an hour in an ambulance after finishing a dissapointing 6th!
I was delighted to be able to come back in Birmigham and win one, if not the biggest XC races of the year. The fact that all the races were live on sky sports made it even sweeter!
It made the 5.30AM wake up time on saturday morning completely worth it and was a nice reward at the end of my cross country season for the work I have put in.
The race itself went perfectly to the plan that my coach (Rob Mckim) and I had agreed. After going off too quickly 2 weeks ago, I decided to start off slower, working my way through the field before making a “break” in the latter stages of the race. It went as planeed and I finished the 6km course in 18.29 16 seconds ahead of my berkshire teammate Scott Halstead who finished 2nd. This meant that as well as individual gold berkshire also got a team 3rd. A great end to a very satisfying day :)
