Today was the Team GB Parade through London. The day started with a few speeches before we got on the floats. We shared our float with the Handball team and all the other gymnasts, including Beth Tweddle and Louis Smith. The float travelled at about 2mph, and everywhere you looked there were people! People had to come from all over, missing a day from work, or popping out for a break to see us. It felt amazing to know that there was this much support for all the athletes. Being in a minority sport, (rhythmic gymnastics) sometimes it felt as though our efforts at the games were being overlooked by some of the more popular sports, but it’s days like today, when you remember, you’re competing for your country, not just for your sport. The float travelled for 4 hours, which sounds like a long time, but I was having so much fun, waving at the crowds and cheering, I wish I had longer to take it all in. So thank you to everyone who came to London, and those of you visiting the Bath parade. Your support means everything!

Today we were lucky enough to go to the Team GB parade through London. Since it was a school day and most people would be at work, I didn’t expect such a turn out. once on the float, we looked down and the street was filled with people! We shared our float with the whole gymnastics team including Beth Tweddle and Louis Smith, as well as the men’s and women’s handball team. The float moved very slowly, maybe 2mph, but it still wasn’t enough time to take in the crowds of people. I think I spent the first hour on the float just smiling, and my cheeks ached so much. The support was incredible, London was full of excited people, waving, cheering, clapping. It made me realise, it wasn’t just the immediate support team who we had on our side, but the whole Nation wanted us to do well at the Games. Everybody wanted everyone competing in the Games to just do their personal best. So thank you to everyone who has supported, not only the GB Rhythmic Gymnastics Group, but also any member of Team GB, you helped make my summer!

Today I competed in the Olympic Games!!!
After breakfast we started to get ready, we did our hair and make up very early and the atmosphere in the village was buzzing. I went to training feeling very excited, but once we started training the nerves came about. I had to ignore it and just do the best I could to act as though it was a normal training session. It was time to leave the training venues and walk into the competition arena. My mind was completely focused on the job we had to do, I couldn’t think about anything else other than the competition. I tried to keep my cool.
To be honest, I hardly remember doing the routine, it was all a blur, I just remember when I caught the last catch in the routine. I was so happy and relieved to have made it. I started crying. The support of the British crowd was overwhelming, I was so proud to have made it to the Olympics representing the first ever Rhythmic Gymnastics Group from Great Britain.

On the 3rd and 4th of March the team had our first competition of the year. This was the Nordic Championships, held in Sweden. We were really happy with the quality of our routines, and we were awarded for our good work with the highest scores a rhythmic gymnastics Group from Great Britain has ever scored. We also won the competition, our FIRST medal as a group, and it was a gold! It felt great to be awarded for a whole years worth of hard work, we all felt really proud of all of the training we had previously done, and really positive for the year ahead :)

I have been doing gymnastics since the age of 6. I have since qualified for the National squad, and competed in the European Championships, World Championships and the Olympics. Since 2011, I was successful in my trials for the National Group, this meant full time training in Bath where I now rent a house for the year with my team mates. The group were successful in the trial for the Olympic Games, which means this group will be the first in history from Great Britain to qualify for the Games.
