Here is a summary of how the Essex women got on this season.

Sussex – Play cancelled.

Yorkshire – Essex won by 16 runs. Electing to bat first Essex put on 230 for 7. Yorkshire could then only manage 214 runs before all being bowled out.

Middlesex – Play cancelled.

As you can see 2012 has pretty much been a wash out season. However because we won 2 games with full bonus points we came second in the results table to Kent. This then meant that we would be in the final which was to be held at a neutral ground. Results of this game are to follow…

After two weekends of having cricket cancelled due to waterlogged pitches, the sun was out and we were heading down to Kent to play Bexley.

We all turned up nice and early to do a spot of sunbathing before having to put our whites on. We had won the toss and decided to bat first setting a total for the opposition to try and beat.

The pitch was slow and low, with the boundary being extremely big. This wasn’t exactly ideal as we knew it meant that even if we hit the ball perfectly it was unlikely to reach the boundary so we would be running 2’s, 3’s and 4’s.
We went on to score a total of 99 runs before all being bowled out. We had fallen around 60 runs short of what we had hoped would be our minimum total. Despite this low score though our spirits were still high, with us still believing we could win the game.

As we had finished our innings early, tea was not ready for us so the umpires made the decision for us to have a quick turn around and then come off for tea at 4 o’clock.

The girls were all pretty hungry so we knew we had to bowl Bexley out as quick as we could. When 4 o’clock had arrived Bexley were 5 wickets down and not many runs had been scored.

Coming back out after tea the game started to lack a little excitement with us unable to get the last few wickets and them dotting up the score book. Bexley had all the time in the world to score what was a very low total set by us Loughton girls. However they didn’t manage to do so with us bowling them all out for 46.

As us Loughton girls like to say a quick game is a good game and that’s exactly what this game had turned out to be. Knowing what areas we had to improve on for our next game we all departed for Essex happy to have a win under our belt and to have the season started.

Sunday 22nd April – First Game of the 2012 season.

So picture this, we drove down to Bath on the Saturday with everyone buzzing for the game the next day. We arrived at our hotel in the early evening after having an extremely funny journey listening to music and taking the mickey out of each other. All starving hungry from our 3 hour journey we decided to go off to the restaurant and have some dinner, making sure that we were all fueled up for the following day. After catching up on Britain’s Got Talent we headed off to our own rooms for an early night.

Game day then arrived with us all waking up in high spirits after a good nights sleep. As usual the laughter came quick and fast at breakfast and it was really feeling like a good day.

The weather was dry as we was all hoping for, even the sun decided to make an appearance. We made a slight detour on the way to the ground, in other words we took the wrong turning. It seems there’s not one away game where we haven’t made a detour so we think it was only normal for us to carry on the tradition into 2012.
Arriving an hour before the start time we all got a chance to look at the pitch. For how bad the rain has been previous to the day I was pretty impressed with how it was looking. Bath Cricket Club is a beautiful little ground with the city of Bath as surrounding scenery. Warming up with a spot of football and our music waiting for our captain to toss up.

We got the signal that we were to bat first. I was pretty happy as I quite like batting first as it gives myself as a bowler more of a challenge to get the opposing team out before they reach our run total.

After completing throw downs the opposition took to the field followed by our opening batters. A few of us decided to watch the game from the amazingly comfortable sofa’s inside in the warm while others decided to brave it outside in the cold.

23 overs had past with us losing just one wicket and our score being a total of 59. We had a slow start but were just about to get going as the rain came pouring down. An early tea was called much to our excitement as we had not eaten since breakfast.

Shortly after, a decision was made to abandon the game as the rain was not going to stop. It was to our disappointment as we had all hoped to start the season off with a win under our belt but that wasn’t to happen. We then traveled back home and all dispersed to our parts of the county and universities.

Our next game is on the 29th. Lets hope that, that is the game to get the 2012 season started. However the weather isn’t looking good…..
