Westward Community Centre

The Westward Community Centre is a local community centre at the heart of all that goes on in Bridgend. They have recently just revamped all the children’s outdoor play area at the centre but they were looking for the funding to start a garden area and also start a garden club and get the children involved with the ‘grow your own sessions’. The Foundation is pleased to grant the full funding of £12,000 for this.

Goetre Community Library

This is a project which will benefit the whole community by helping with literacy skills and also allowing people to get on hand support for extra skills – the local community will also be able to borrow books like they do in a library. The project will be run by the local charity Stephens and George Centenary Charitable Trust.

They will use a portal cabin based in the local school which is no longer needed by the school and will be open all week to benefit the wider community. The £5,500 donated by the Asda Foundation will help with the décor and also help to buy much needed equipment.

Nefyn Community Centre

The Nefyn Community Centre in Pwllheli is used by the whole community, play schemes, after school and holiday clubs, projects to tackle anti-social behavior and elderly support groups.

The Asda Foundation has helped to fund the redevelopment of the community centre. This will benefit a wide range of groups within the local community as there is a distinct lack of resources to support activities for children, parents and families in the local community.

The Groundswell Dance Company in Swansea were forced to re-locate due to harassment from drug abusers and anti-social behaviour. Groundswell is a well established non-profitable organisation which has provided extensive training and performance opportunities for young people in the Swansea area.

They are constantly fundraising for the new premises, together with costs to keep the dance group open. The Foundation has donated £3,000 to help with the new dance floor.
