Asda Foundation - London and South East

The scout hall has been around for many years (since 1969) and has certain activities that all the other local scouts, brownies and local community groups can access.

However the hall is in desperate need of repairs and they have been fundraising for over two years. They now have all funding needed to complete the work thanks to the Foundation’s donation of £12,300 – this will make a real difference to the Sutton local community.

The Freedom Centre

This is a centre which offers educational and social classes to the local people with disabilities and their families and carers. However the front entrance is causing a health and safety problem for wheelchair users this is what the £4,890 provided by Asda Foundation will pay to improve so it will offer easier access to all users.

This is a project which is being set up by Valley Church who took over a community building (The Bridge) from the Council in 1996 to run a community centre with many activities and user groups.

However, lately they have wanted to set up a computer room to help the many locals who need support with finding jobs and also to help with benefit applications as with the new reform many are to be done online. Not all have access to the internet and the local library is only open at certain times of the day but this centre is open at weekends and evenings so will benefit more people. The £4,338 that we have donated will buy much needed computer equipment and décor for the room they are wishing to use.

Old Boat Corner Community Centre

This centre was built on land gifted to the local community by Asda when they first opened the Brighton Hollingbury store 25 years ago. This centre benefits the whole community and all money raised from letting at low cost to the user groups is re-invested in the hall.

They require the £21,449 donated by the Asda Foundation to redecorate the main multi purpose hall, lighting, CCTV, Acoustic Curtain and folding furniture for use in all the rooms.

Special Care Baby Unit

The hospital and local community raised a significant amount of money as there was a great need to purchase the special care baby unit for the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. The Asda Foundation’s donation of £23,400 has now enabled them to purchase this much needed equipment.
