Thurmaston Community Centre

The Thurmaston Community Centre has been widely used by the local community since 1967. It has between 200-300 users per week for a wide variety of activities. However the building is the old style wooden build and may not see out many more winters and is not really cost effective on energy usage.

They have managed to build an extra room with brick and toilets to the side of the building to start a long process of making the building more sustainable. They have financed this with £30,000 – which they have managed to raise with some funds from takings which all go back in to the centre. However it will take another £10,000 to complete – the Foundation was happy to fund this shortfall.

Sky Blues

Sky Blues in the Community is the charity arm of the football club – who have been working with the local Asda store. They have come up with this community project which will make smoothie bikes – and work with the local store to deliver this activity in the local schools, Asda car parks and any of the community events that take place. This will help promote health, fitness and wellbeing. The Asda Foundation donated £3,958.61 towards this project.

Action Homeless

This is a project which will eventually house 75 homeless people in the local area. They will not only house them but also offer advice and help them set up with the basics needed. The donation of £1,976.25 will pay for the bedding for all 75 residents.

Sutton-In-Ashfield now has an area where schools can grow their own fruit and vegetables. And with wheelchair access, the older residents will be able to help with the children.

The Foundation donated £5,000 to the Northern View Allotment Association to help fund the essential items and equipment needed as well as the seating areas.

This BMX Bike Track is being supported by the Sinfin Neighbourhood team, NHS Derby City – Given to Echo Youth Group, Derby Homes and the Asda Foundation.

The track will support the whole community – getting young people involved in sport and taking them off the streets. Children in the area will have the opportunity to be trained to use the track properly – which will be manned so it is a safe environment for the whole community. The Asda Foundation was happy to donate to this project which will benefit young people in the community.
