ASDA has today announced it will drop petrol prices for the third time in a fortnight at all its forecourts from tomorrow morning. The supermarket is also guaranteeing customers that its new low prices will be held for at least 10 days regardless of fluctuations in the price of crude.
With OPEC meeting tomorrow and rumoured to be announcing cuts in crude production, many are predicting petrol prices will start to rise again.
ASDA has today delivered a welcome boost to Britain’s drivers – by becoming the first retailer to drop petrol prices below £1 per litre this year.
ASDA’s new pump price of 99.9p per litre for unleaded petrol drives the price below the £1 per litre mark for the first time since last December.
The fact that ASDA is leading the way by dropping prices will now make it much easier for motorists to see when they are ripped off by operators charging above the £1 rate.
The new figures come as ASDA this month launches a major range change across its wine category, with 680 wines now stocked – 25% of which are award winners.
ASDA’s Head of Wine Trading, Karen Doran, said: "We are the fastest growing wine retailer in the UK. As well as the 49% value growth, our market share has risen by 34.3% over a 12 week period.
Following its market leading drop to below £1 a litre last week, ASDA has introduced a further reduction in the price of petrol and diesel.
All ASDA’s 172 forecourts will be at 97.9p per litre for petrol and 109.9p for diesel across Great Britain and Northern Ireland from tomorrow morning (21 October).
ASDA trading director Darren Blackhurst said: "We monitor prices daily and are committed to delivering the best and fairest prices for our customers – which is why all our petrol stations charge the same low price, rather than hiding behind local pricing.
"We expect oil prices to fluctuate in the coming weeks and will continue to pass on cost savings to customers whenever and wherever possible."
ASDA today (3rd October) has given drivers a welcome boost this weekend by lowering the cost of fuel effective from tomorrow morning. The retailer is passing more savings on to its customers by lowering its national pump price at all of its 170 plus petrol stations across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
ASDA Trading Director, Darren Blackhurst said: “We review our fuel prices daily and are committed to passing back the benefits of lower cost prices to all our customers with our national price. We urge our rivals not to take advantage of drivers who don’t live close to an ASDA petrol station and to pass on cost benefits fairly to all their customers”.
ASDA has cut 15p (131.9 in July) off diesel and 11p (116.9 in July) off unleaded in the last three months.
Thousands of workers from ASDA stores and depots across the country are celebrating today following the maturity of the company’s Colleague Share Ownership Plan which has paid out more than £2m in free shares.
The first of the plans to mature in August paid out over £3million to 19,000 colleagues in ASDA’s 348 stores across the country, with a further 15,000 colleagues sharing a pot of £2million, worth of Wal-Mart shares.
The Colleague Share Ownership plan was set up in 1995 giving thousands of colleague’s free shares in the ASDA business.
