Earlier this month I represented South East of England at the 2012 Sainsbury’s School Games. It was a competition held from May 6th-9th comprising of a range of sports, there was gymnastics, swimming, and cycling just to name a few.
Athletics was on the last day and was I excited… When the day arrived all I could think about was stepping onto the actual Olympic Track that the world’s best athletes will soon be on.
I wasnt really nervous for our 4×300m Relay as I knew the girls and I worked well together and that we would all do what was needed to be done. I was last leg so I got to cheer the girls on, we were in second position when the baton got handed to me, so as soon as I recieved it all I had in mind was to chase the girl infront of me. I overtook her just coming off the back straight and We Won :D.
Next up was my individual 300m race, now I was nervous because after the relay I did feel a little fatigue. I had a talk with my coach and she hyped me up and made me believe I could run the fastest 300m I’ve ever ran before.
With that in mind I just stayed focused and thought about what Jane said. When the gun went I ran as fast as I could all the way to the finish line.
I won in a new personal best and championship best performance in 38.43secs :). I was soo soo happy, it couldn’t have been done in a better place than the Olympic Stadium itself.
The stadium was amazing and the track felt super fast. It just feels special to say I was one of the last few to test and be on the track before the 2012 London Olympic Games begin.
