On Monday 14th May i was back up Bath RUH with the same pain, this time worse and only on my right side. Monday was a normal school day, i was trying to go all day but i didnt get that far.

Third lesson was PE and before i started getting changed i had a pain attack so i went to the school nurse who phoned my mum. She had enough of me being in pain, so i went straight up Bath. It was such a long wait before i had a bed, they did my bloods and once again i had the annoying needle stuck in me.

This time i stayed on my own every night, but was up in pain every 4 hours. Nothing anyone did helped now, ibuprofen, paracetamol, stiing/lying down, NOTHING! I was in pain whatever i did, i also had shooting pains when i walked so i was less movable this time.

On tuesday i was told they were going to do a CT Scan but then they changed their mind as it was apparently too risky for girls my age. So instead they deci do a MRI Scan, i wasn’t worried at all though. My MRI appointment was at 11 on Wednesday and i went in straight away.

I was in the tunnel for about 20 minutes- it was so boring! The cool thing was that i was took down in my hospital bed, hehe! 4 hours later my MRI results came back clear which was strange because my pains were getting worse and worse each day.

They said that if the MRI came back clear they would argue for a CT scan, which they didnt. So i was left clueless. That night i was a state, up in the night crying in pain. The nurse woke me up and 6 am to check my temperature, heart rate and give me some pain relief that didn’t help at all!

At about 7:30 i was crippled over my bed feeling sick with a headache and pains that i had never experienced, this was the worst morning so far. I didn’t think it could get any worse than last night, i thought wrong! I had to press my buzzer to get help and all they did was give me a sick bowl and another pillow, i wasn’t allowed any more pain relief but this WAS an emergency! So i was just left in my bed to deal with it.

At 10 my mum arrived, i was so glad to see her. While the nurses were bed side i had another pain attack, this time twice as bad, i was crying and screaming as it hurt so much and they said i wasnt allowed pain relief when i was! So once again i was left in pain.

The constant pains were worse that day but they discharged me that day, it was thursday- the same day the discharged me last time. I went and came in the same days 3 weeks later. Before they told me i was going home a man came in to review me and tell me what was going on. When he was examining my stomach he was pressing so hard and i was in so much pain.

But the main things he said was ‘you have an unknown cause, there is nothing we can do but give you pain killers’ ‘the pain will last a couple months and it could be the start of something that is too early to see at the moment’ and ‘you will not be able to race till next year!’ whaaaaaat?! thats not happening!

On Monday 21st May – Friday 25th i have the BMX World Championships in Birmingham in the NIA. It’s probably a once in a life time experience for me, i have to do it! i know i haven’t been able to train but to say i competed in the worlds is just amazing! So i got on my bike the day after i got out of hospital, which went well! BRING ON THE WORLDSSSS!!!!

In all my 8 days 6 nights in hospital they promised to do so many things that they didnt end up doing. They promised to: put the camera in, x-rays, CT Scan, and to take my Appendix out (i suppose that was a good thing they didnt!)

Due to my disaster at Birmingham i went up to Frome Hospital on Monday 23rd April, to see my GP about whats happened because i knew there was something wrong. They thought it was my appendix so they referred me to Bath RUH Childrens Ward. I was in constant pain, it was always aching and shooting.

By this time i had explained my story so many times and it was getting so annoying. When i got there i had to have a blood test done and they kept the needle in my hand for the whole 4 days i was in hospital, it was actually painful when i moved my hands sometimes. For the first couple days nothing was done- just constant re-explaining my story.

On the 3rd day i had an UltraSound Scan booked, my nan came with me to that due to my mum going home to get some rest. Nothing was shown on my scan and all my bloods and temperatures were fine, strange! My mum stayed the first 2 nights but on the 3rd she left me on my own which was quite scary at first. On the 3rd night i had a pain attack while i was going for a walk on my own, i called my mum hysterically to come and get me due to being crippled over in pain. Luckily the Registrar seen me in all this pain and kept my in one night more.

On the Thursday morning they discharged me and diagnosed me with MESENTERIC ADINITIS which they weren’t sure on. A few times during my stay i was nil by mouth which in the end they never did any surgery which was so annoying. The phrase ‘hospital food is horrible’ is kind of true. For breakfast i had toast every morning and sometimes at 10 at night. For tea every day i had a Tuna jacket Pototo as there wasnt much choice! And for pudding i had a little pot of ice cream :)

My mum brought me little treats down and my nans, cousin, grandma, dad and brothers and sisters came to visit me; which was very nice! So i went home on Thursday with some ibuprofen and paracetamol which at the time seemed to help! Slowly and surely i started getting better and got back on my bike, i was feeling goood! i had a total of 2 weeks off school and on the 3rd week i started going half days and coming home at lunch, i was so tired! It was so nice to see all much friends though. But the bad thing was i missed the first 2 regionals because of hospital:(

Friday 20th April, me and my family travelled up to Birmingham for a national event. We left at 10 o’clock to get there for 2, it was raining, typical! whilst mum and dad set up the caravan, my friends and i had a good look at the track and pre-planned our victories;)6 o’clock came; time for practice! After a 3 hour session i was feeling good and ready for racing on Saturday.

Saturday 21st, up at 7:30 to get ready for race day. i was on the track for practice by 8:30- which again i was feeling good and ready to go. I stocked up on energy drinks and had a burger for breakfast-pro food;)The days motos went okay with the results of 2nd,1st,2nd.

I had my main competitor in my semi-final but i seemed to ride better than in my motos- it was nearly a photo finish!! Before the final i went back to the caravan to relax and mentally prepare myself for the most important of the day.

I ended up with 4th pick for the gate which wasn’t great, but my gate was great! i jumped the first jump perfectly and went into the first corner in 2nd place. Going along the second straight i hung back a little bit as i had a plan for the second corner- i was in the perfect position to go up the inside of my main rival. what did i have to loose?!i went for it and thankfully it pulled off! going across the line in first place was an amazing feeling.

After my move everyone was congratulating me on how great it apparently was, but sadly no one was filming on saturday:(

Sunday 22nd, today i woke up about 7 due to practice being at 8, again i was feeling good-jumping the first jump nicely too. Racing started at 10 today instead of 12 ish. i only got 3 laps in practice so it wasnt that great. All of my motos were hard today and i wasnt feeling great, i felt tired and ill. But in the end i got 2nd,2nd,2nd.

Yet again i got 2nd in my semi, i felt that something was wrong today. During the break before the finals i went to my caravan again; this time falling asleep, i was feeling drowsy and knackered. Final time came and i was in the pens back pedalling like always. I got this random shooting abdominal pain on both sides. When i pushed to go out the gate i had the same shooting pain so i stopped pedalling and was last out the gate. For the first time all weekend i didnt jump the first jump but came out the first corner in 4th.

From the start i didnt try hard due to all the pain i was in, i stayed 4th the rest of the way round the track- i was not happy at all! I rode back to my mum in hysterics and collapsed. The paramedics came to me and took me to the ambulance tent, while they did that i held up the Elite Men Final!!

The paramedic thought i had Appendicitis and said to get as far home as possible. But while mum and dad was putting the caravan on the van and sorting everything out i was coughing and heaving. So they called an ambulance for me, this was my first time in one and i was on gas and air to help the pain- i was soo lightheaded!

They took me to Birmingham childrens hospital, after a long wait there, the doctor wasnt any help at all. He said ‘it could be anything really, you’ll probably ben spewing up tomorrow!’ So we just made our way home with a McDonalds in hand as i hadn’t eaten since 12 o’clock and by this time it was half 11! We were going to Frome Hospital in the morning.

Saturday 19th May I had my first track session since I’d been in hospital. Bath was doing some gate practice which was the only practice I’d be getting before the worlds. At first I was a bit rusty and and sore, but once I had been round a few times I was doing a few manuals and little jumps.

I mostly practiced my gates due to that being the most important part of a race and the part that hurt the most. My gates were okay as were my manuals and jumps, but they could of been better. We spent about an hour and a half at the track which was good enough. I am really looking forward to the worlds and hope my injuries wont fail me too much, wish me luck!!!
