Ulster girls was at Farnham Estate, Co. Cavan this year and I was looking forward to competing in it. I had been practising hard all winter and I was hoping my hard work would pay off.
The championship consisted of 18 holes strokeplay on the first day and the top 8 qualified for the championship matchplay rounds. Farnham was a difficult test and my golf was not up to scratch on that particular day. I didn’t qualify for the matchplay rounds and I was very disappointed. However I learned from this championship and I realised that not everyday will go to plan. I will be competing in the Lienster Girls championship next week and I hope to play better and preform to the best of my ability.
Last week I competed in the Leinster girls championship in Blackbush Golf club. This championship consisted of two rounds strokeplay on the first day and the top 16 qualified for the championship matchplay the following day. After the first round of strokeplay I posted a score of 87 (14over) which was a reasonable score around the course as I felt it was playing difficult.
Throughout the first round I knew my game was in good shape and I had the potential to have a great score- but my luck wasn’t with me in the morning. No putts dropped and my ball ended up in unfortunate situations.
The second round started steady and my luck seemed to turn. I posted a much more impressive score of 78 for the second round and I won best gross for round 2. The next day I played my first match in the championship and I won on the 16th hole. It was a difficult match but my short game gave me the edge I needed. This victory led me into the quarter finals; however my short game let me down and my game was much weaker. My match played great and I was happy to see her make it to the finals. Overall I was happy with my performance and I am looking forward to the other championships coming up.
