If I’m honest with myself, I had a disappointing start to the season. I didn’t meddle at the British champs and the results were not good as they should have been.

But over the weekend, I went to Bonn Germany for a huge euro ranking event with roughly 215 in attendance. After not doing well in the same event for the past 2 years, I was one of 2 brits to make it through the poules, L128 and L64 stages to make the second day (along with the british u17 and u20 #1 Philip Marsh) Starting the 2nd day was scary, the majority were 6ft at least and all excellent fencers.

At the end of the day I finished 7th, the best ever british result at the competition, this will give me plenty of ranking points and of course I’m ecstatic! I lost in the quarters to the eventual winner 15-12 who went on to take his semi 15-4 and final 15-10 so looking back, although disappointed after the loss I’m pleased with the way I fenced.

If any of the GBR team read this, I couldn’t have done it without your support and advice, especially Sam Ridely who is also supported by Asda.

I used the money from the grant to fund this trip so a HUGE thank you to Asda sporting chance. Once I know my new ranking I’ll update this blog! :)

Hey, competed in France on the weekend and it went pretty well … I started slowly (I was tired from travelling for 15 hours the day before, 3 of which were spent stationary on the m1 – snow is alot more fun when you don’t need to go somewhere!) but I managed to get into good form after about 3 fights.

After two rounds of poules I was seeded 28th and therefore had a bye into the L64. Having fallen asleep and lost focus, I went 9-3 down at the 1st break. (that is a lot in fencing terms, especially epee) I don’t think many people thought I would pull it back, but I cleared by head and thought about tactics. I began to get points back and completely dominated the 2nd and 3rd period and it reached 14-14. (fights go to 15) I managed to get the hit and so went through to the L32. Unfortunately, during my epic comeback the french fencer stamped on my toe; as I had the momentum I did not want to take injury time which would let him rest, so I decided to bite the bullet and go on. After the fight, I looked at my toe and the whole nail had turned completely blue! I was then told when cleaning some blood away that I needed to go to my next fight. I tried to move but it was very painful and I lost to a good fencer.

As there is repechage, I had another chance to go through …
