The Green House Opening

Monday saw the opening of ‘The Greenhouse’. The Greenhouse is our new industry leading own label development centre where we will nurture, grow and develop our own label brands.

Each year we develop between 2000-2500 NEW products and we review and test over 40,000 products and competitor products to ensure our quality is where it needs to be to make between 500-1000 product improvements to our products each year.

The Greenhouse delivers improved facilities for the development and testing of our own label products and puts Asda brand products truly at the heart of our business with a new location right in the atrium of Asda House.

We have a new enlarged chefs kitchen, demonstration kitchen- where we can hold training sessions and workshops, improved development kitchens, large presentation kitchen, new non edible studio and increased storage.

Andy Clarke officially opened the centre kicking off a huge launch event for the facility. The Asda brand product managers and chefs arranged a showcase of our products and our roles for other colleagues in the business to tour around and understand how we will use the facility and its importance to us all.

We had chefs from Leith’s School of Cookery and Wine showcasing in the kitchen academy- and they also judged our fantastic Jubilee cake competition.

Other showcases included: Chefs demo and tasting, Travel & food, Chosen by you testing, benchmarking, summer food and wine paring, Tea tasting, nappy testing, product lifecycle, consistency, home baking and cake decorating, history of our brands, Non edible showcase and pampering, sensory suite.

It was a fantastic launch event with some really positive feedback from colleagues, we are really proud of our new facilities and cannot wait to get developing new products in them! We currently are the fastest growing owl label retailer with these new facilitates who knows what we will create!
