Masterclass with Cono Sur winemaker

Last week, Adolfo the winemaker from Cono Sur vineyards in Chile came to our head office to give a masterclass on his wines!

Here’s the Asda team, taking notes and tasting with Adolfo, who is in the suit. We tasted the lines we currently have in the range (Bicicleta Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Carmenere) and some wines from his other collections, including brand new products!

We also got to quiz him after the tasting and here is some of the interesting information we found out:

  • What is your favourite wine and why?

Pinot Noir of course! I prefer Cono Sur’s flagship variety but this is also the hardest to grow and make wine from, so when you get a good Pinot Noir that is something to be really proud of.

  • I recently tried some Cono Sur Sauvignon Blanc, what is your favourite dish to go with this wine?

I’d say definitely asparagus and scallops, as the light, fresh taste of these foods work really well with the spring flavours of Sauvignon Blanc.

  • What made you want to become a winemaker?

My family on both sides have always been involved in agriculture so it seemed natural that I would study to become an agronomist. When I needed to specialise in my studies I chose to try my hand at wine!

  • What is your usual working day like?

The thing I like the best about my job is that no day is normal! I split my time between the vineyards, the winery office and trips like this one to see export markets in other countries
