Over the summer we joined forces with the national charity Fields in Trust to help protect local parks and playing fields from development to ensure they’ll be there for future generations to enjoy.

FIT logoIt’s part of an initiative to mark the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by safeguarding 2012 outdoor recreational spaces.

We staged most of our Asda Active fun sports events on these Queen Elizabeth II Fields sites, and recorded all the plaque handing over ceremonies that occurred to mark the sites now firmly protected.

One such event took place at Wellholme Park, Brighouse on Saturday 30th June, 2012 featuring Field In Trust’s Deputy Chief Executive, Don Earley, who presented a lovely plaque the size of a bin lid to councillor Christine Beale. You can see the ceremony video here.

You can also check to see if there’s a protected park near you by entering your postcode at the charity’s Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge website.
