The FIA and their partner Sport England have teamed up with Asda to create the Asda Active campaign. Each of the Asda Active zones will be supported by Fields in Trust, Games4Life and some key sports providers and promoters.

Fields in Trust is marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by protecting 2,012 outdoor spaces from development and ensuring local kids and future generations have somewhere to relax and play. Telford Town Park Arena is one of those spaces.

Voting has now closed: Congratulations to the Telford Hornets Rugby Club who received the most votes. Not only did they come top of the groups nominated by Asda Telford but they attended the event to demonstrate their sport and get youngsters more involved.

Ladies coach, Andrea Hughes-Davies (left) and a few of the junior team players are on hand to receive a cheque for £300 from Asda Telford’s Community Life Champion, Vicky Patterson.

Hear what Andrea had to say and how she intends to use the community donation

Over the summer we joined forces with the national charity Fields in Trust to help protect local parks and playing fields from development to ensure they’ll be there for future generations to enjoy.

FIT logoIt’s part of an initiative to mark the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by safeguarding 2012 outdoor recreational spaces.

We staged most of our Asda Active fun sports events on these Queen Elizabeth II Fields sites, and recorded all the plaque handing over ceremonies that occurred to mark the sites now firmly protected.

One such event took place at Wellholme Park, Brighouse on Saturday 30th June, 2012 featuring Field In Trust’s Deputy Chief Executive, Don Earley, who presented a lovely plaque the size of a bin lid to councillor Christine Beale. You can see the ceremony video here.

You can also check to see if there’s a protected park near you by entering your postcode at the charity’s Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge website.
