Colleagues in Asda stores across the UK are busy fundraising for Tickled Pink.

Tickled Pink fundraisers

They’ve been holding a range of fundraising activities and sponsored events in store to raise money for the two breast cancer charities we support, as well as inspiring customers to get involved.

All the money raised is split equally between Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now. With your help we’ve raised more than £44 million so far since the Tickled Pink campaign started 19 years ago.

Asda Awards

Community Retailer of the YearWe’re delighted to announce that we’ve been named as Community Retailer of the Year at the Retail Industry Awards for the third successive year.

The panel of judges were impressed by the impact our community-focused initiatives continue to have had on the local areas around our stores.

We were praised by the judges for an “exceptionally good” award submission that highlighted just how much work Asda undertake in the community.

“It blows away the myth that independents do community work better than multiples,” said one judge. Another member of the panel said its community work was in line with what Asda’s parent company, Wal-Mart, is doing in America “to get communities to embrace the company rather than pushing it away”.

Ruth Scholefield is planning a year of celebrations in 2016. As well as celebrating her tenth wedding anniversary to husband Philip, her own 40th birthday and her son’s 18th she is also looking forward to passing another very special milestone.

Ruth Scholefield

On 6th September 2016 she will have been cancer-free for five years and will have beaten breast cancer … not once, but twice!

To celebrate, Ruth will be taking part in the Breast Cancer Care fashion show in London on 7th October as one of 32 models who have all had breast cancer. Fashion editor Hilary Alexander will be styling the models, who will all be wearing outfits from big name retailers including George at Asda.

Ruth was first diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2007, the day before her daughter’s second birthday – four days before Christmas. She had found a lump in her breast which turned out to be a harmless cyst but hiding behind that was a 4cm cancerous tumour.

“My world fell apart,” said Ruth. “Being told I had cancer was like having the ground ripped away from under me, it was a huge shock.”
