How to turn laughs to love - top tips from Asda customers

We’ve got everything you need at Asda to help you sweep your Valentine off their feet this weekend – and thanks to other Asda customers we’ve even got tips for the perfect chat-up line to win your loved one’s heart.

Customers have been sending in their stories of how they met their partners – and the romantic or not so romantic lines that did the trick – for a chance to win a romantic cruise on the Thames in our Valentine’s competition.

Gill Wilson from Hornchurch is living proof of the way a chat-up line can change your life. She says: “It was a really windy evening. Me and my friend went into a pub and while she went to the bar I found a table.

“The wind had played havoc with my hair, so I got out my comb to tidy it up. A man came up to me, and with a grin on his face said ‘Do you comb hair often?’ We’ve now been married 28 years, with 2 children and 4 grandchildren.”

Louise Sheppard from Beverley says she once kissed “a really ugly guy” because she thought he deserved it with his chat-up line: “I may not be Fred Flintstone but I can certainly make your bed rock!”

Beverley Cordle from Solihull says “A guy once threw some ice on the floor next to me, stood on it and said ‘Now we’ve broken the ice, can I buy you a drink.’ I couldn’t stop laughing!”

Laura Sanderson from Stroud likes the line: “Is your dad an alien because there is nothing else like you in this world!”

Jo Jones from Burton remembers the line: “I see you haven’t got a smile – so would you like to share one of mine? That was the start of our relationship, and we have been married for thirty nine years so it obviously worked and, yes, we’re both smiling.”

Helen Dover from Manchester recommends a forward approach: “Get your coat mate, you have pulled … and take me to the chippy before u drop me off at home … now married with 2 kids!!!”

And Hazey from Merseyside knows how laughs can lead to love: “I saw the most handsome man I had ever seen in my life whilst on a night out with friends. As he walked past I said to him ‘Hey handsome, you owe me a drink because I dropped mine when i looked at you.’

“He laughed and asked me what i wanted to drink. His sense of humour was exactly the same as mine. We got on really well and are married with two children. I still say it to him now when we get the rare chance to go out partying together.

“That was 14 years ago and it still makes us laugh and we still share the same mad sense of humour.”

You can read many more great entries – and send us your own stories and chat-up lines – on the Valentine’s competition page.
