Election 2010: party leaders speak directly to Asda Mums

Election 2010

There’s one thing we’re sure of at Asda – when we listen to our customers and act on what they tell us we become a better business. And we hope politicians will do the same in the next election.

In many ways Asda customers reflect the whole country – we have customers in almost every constituency and our customers are represented by MPs from all political parties. While we’d never take sides in an election we do want our political leaders to hear from you so they can make the right decisions for the country.

That’s why we’ve written to all the major parties to ask them to talk and listen to Asda customers in the run-up to the 2010 election. We’ve invited the main party leaders to record and post a video message directly to Asda mums. We’ve also asked all the major parties to take part in a series of live Q&A sessions on Your Asda. We’ve had positive feedback on the idea and as soon as we hear back from everyone formally we’ll let you know – if they agree we’d love you to join in.

We don’t know who will be running the country by the summer but we do know that Asda customers will play a big part in choosing them. We have 18 million customers a week and 80% of them are women. We’re sure many of our customers – and especially Asda mums – will have lots of questions for the politicians about the issues that affect them and their families.

Maybe you feel strongly about VAT, child benefit, child support or maternity/paternity rights. Or perhaps you have burning questions about education, health or environment policies.

At Asda we try to listen to our customers and act on your feedback wherever possible. We don’t take sides politically but we do believe we’re better when we have our ears open and our mouths shut.

And in the run-up to a general election politicians will be listening to voters – particularly in areas like the East and West Midlands and the South West where the election results are likely to be close.

So if you’ve got something to ask this is the ideal opportunity! Start preparing your questions and we’ll announce the dates of the online Q&A sessions as soon as the election is called.

The election could be held any time between now and June 2010 so make sure you’re registered to vote. If you’re not sure what to do or whether you’re eligible visit www.aboutmyvote.co.uk for more information.

If you’d like to have more of a say about our products and services don’t forget you can also register as an Asda Pulse of The Nation panellist.

Vickie from Asda says:

Hi James,

Thanks for your comment.

80% of our customers are women but of course, our election campaign will be open to all our customers: mums and dads.

We want to give everyone a platform to quiz MPs about what is important to them.

Thanks

Vickie

James Bagnall from Hull says:

What about ‘Asda Dads’? I do most of the household shopping for our family – so isn’t it a little sexist to Mums and Dads just having ‘Asda Mums’ in this way??

Best wishes,

James.
